In this months #farmsmart feature, IfA staff member Philippa has been looking through the FAIRshare digital tools inventory to find a tool to help farm biosecurity. The FAIRshare inventory currently showcases 258 digital advisory tools relevant to people working in agriculture, and anyone is welcome to upload a profile on a digital tool they own or have found beneficial to their work. The inventory is free to access, and now has a new feature list of 180 training modules that are available for farmers or advisors to help them utilise digital tools on farm. These training courses are grouped into 5 key themes: Data management, data analysis, data protection, decision support and general training. One very user-friendly tool found on the inventory is BioCheck by Ghent University. This tool is aimed at pigs, poultry and cattle farmers, and uses a risk-based scoring system to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of a farm’s biosecurity measures. It takes around 15 minutes to complete the mostly multiple-choice questionnaire, on farm biosecurity practices from colostrum management to pest control. BioCheck then produces a report, comparing your score to the global average. The tool is free to use, but additional features such as personalised feedback and access to e-learning material can be purchased. Why not have a look at how your farm performs by clicking here.
