Practical ways to reduce antibiotic use will be outlined at IfA’s conference at the Bath & West Showground on 7th December. This dairy-specific conference follows a sell-out forerunner in July that covered all livestock species.
Following the O’Neil report, a target of 50mg/kg was set for all species, this has now been reviewed and different targets are being announced for each species. RUMA will be informing the conference what the new targets are for dairy farmers.
There will be a variety of specialist speakers covering topics such as practical tips, drug surveillance & recording and the use of technology. Biosecurity, reducing disease pressures through on-farm management measures will be addressed by Nuffield Scholar, Aled Davies, who completed a study tour looking at alternatives to antibiotics worldwide.
In addition to farmers and dairy unit managers, the programme has been designed for vets and advisers.
